I am an artist taking on the responsibility for the viewer and techniques of design. I draw inspiration from science to propose new models to experience reality through.
My work recontextualizes scientific and philosophical models and makes them tangible.
For the 2017 RCA show, I am showing “A Measurement (Problem) Of Reality”.
It is an interactive voting booth sculpture housing experiments, which enable you to explore elections through the lens of quantum physics and vice versa.
A measurement does not just inform about reality, it forms reality.
The world recently went through some unpredictable elections, which, even though they were ever so close in outcome, formed the reality we live in now. In quantum physics, the measurement changes the measured. Photons in a superposition of vertical and horizontal polarisation collapse into one of those states when they are measured. According to the Many Worlds Interpretation, in a parallel reality the other option is realised.
We cannot access those other realities, we have to cope with the one we are in. After we measured/learned/determined “What is?” reality, we have to go on from there and ask “What now?”, yet to answer that the “What if?” can be useful.
