Twenty Three

Drawing from the extensive migration from the South of Europe to the countries of the North following the economic crisis of 2008, this project investigates the contemporary condition of a young generation of immigrants that has been described as “lost”.

An almost banal story about packing a suitcase before leaving home, the project aims to register the everyday preoccupations of this generation, and make evident the existential mythologies that unravel upon the space of the suitcase.

The weight of the suitcase (23 kilos) becomes here the practical measure of individual lives that are celebrated in the most mundane items and the ritualised processes of packing.
